ART’S FRIENDS AUCTION TO BENEFIT GMEINER

By: Carrie Heath, February 23, 2022
Art’s Friends is a group that formed in the last year to support the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center. Their first major fundraiser will be an Art Auction! Please consider donating a piece to this great event. We will gladly accept works from artists within a 150 mile radius of the Gmeiner. Pieces in ANY artistic medium will be accepted (1 piece per artist). They do not have to be new.  All funds raised will go toward the Gmeiner’s goals.

Pieces for the auction can be brought into the Gmeiner between now and March 17th. Next week, there will be someone in the gallery between 3-6PM every day except Thursday. After that, pieces can be dropped off whenever the gallery is open 12-6PM Tuesday through Sunday.

There is a one-page form that you will need to fill out with information on the piece (and you can get another form to write it off on your taxes, if you would like).

All donated items will be photographed and uploaded to the online program that Jelliff’s Auction Group uses. The auction will be online for a month and will culminate with an in-person "Auction Finale" event on Saturday, April 29th where visitors can come into the gallery to see all of the items displayed, have a little food and wine, and get assistance with doing online bidding if they need help. Even if you are unable to donate a piece right now, we hope that you
will participate in the auction and come to the finale!

The Gmeiner is open from 12-6PM Tuesdays through Sundays and is located at 134 Main Street in Wellsboro behind the Green Free Library. Admission to the gallery is
free.

IN-FILL PA wants YOU to participate in an exhibit of designs for in-fill spaces.

IN-FILL PA wants YOU to participate in an exhibit of designs for in-fill spaces.

Project Background:
In-fill is the practice of re-dedication of land to new programming and/or development. Many small towns and cities in Pennsylvania, and elsewhere, have vacant lots.  Often these lots sit unused for years.  In some instances, communities have reassigned these spaces as outdoor amenities such as pocket parks, playgrounds, community gardens, outdoor workspaces, meditation gardens, and performance venues.  These transitions breathe new life into underutilized spaces.  As examples, think about Canal Park in Danville (rendering below courtesy of the Danville Business Alliance), the proposed pocket park in Bloomsburg, and your own town’s empty spaces.

IN-FILL PA seeks to engage residents, artists, designers, and design firms from all over to share their work to inspire engaged dialogue to address in-fill spaces in communities across Pennsylvania.

IN-FILL PA participants are asked to submit hard copies or PDFs of drawings, graphics, photo-collages, plans, and 2-D models of concept designs and implemented projects that address in-fill spaces. Before and after imagery is welcome as well as images that illustrate the process of in-fill space transformation.

IN-FILL PA is a public art project conceived and produced by Cindi Hron and The Exchange Gallery.  Thanks to the Community Giving Foundation and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts for funding.

IN-FILL PA will take place during the spring of 2023: The submitted designs will be displayed at the Exchange Gallery in Bloomsburg AND additional regional exhibition venues located in Central Pennsylvania.  Each exhibition site will further highlight local in-fill projects and conduct informal public charettes to encourage discourse to address in-fill design and program needs in these communities.

IN-FILL PA seeks submissions from near and far, across Pennsylvania and around the U.S. and around the world.

Lewisburg, PA – Grab your phone or your camera and hit us with your best shot in the 10th Annual Susquehanna Greenway Photo Contest: Treasured Towns and Landscapes of the Susquehanna.

This free-to-enter photo contest offers individuals of all ages and ability levels the opportunity to go outside, explore, and capture—via photography—the many landscapes, resources, and towns along the Susquehanna Greenway.

Cash Prizes will be awarded to the first through third place winners within each category: River Towns, Landscapes, Susquehanna Adventures, and Wildlife. Winning images will also be printed, framed, and added to a traveling gallery to be exhibited throughout the Susquehanna region within Pennsylvania.

“SGP seeks to inspire and celebrate the connections that are shared between our communities and the Susquehanna River,” says SGP Executive Director Corey Ellison. “Our annual photo contest provides one way of fostering this connection by encouraging people to get out on the Greenway and explore the Susquehanna through a camera lens.”

The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2021. Eligible participants can visit susquehannagreenway.org/photocontest to learn more and submit photographs in one or all four categories. Entries must be submitted electronically through the SGP portal and in accordance with contest guidelines.

SGP also celebrates the winning photos at an annual wine and gallery reception called Susquehanna Scenes and Sips. This year, both the 8th and 9th annual winners will be recognized during Susquehanna Scenes, Sips, and Scales at Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland on Friday, May 7, 6-8 PM. Guests are invited to enjoy a walk through the interactive zoo exhibits, sip wines from three local PA wineries, and view the winning images from the contest’s previous years. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at susquehannagreenway.org/scales.
The Susquehanna Greenway is a corridor of connected trails, parks, river access points, and communities, linking people to the natural and cultural treasures of the Susquehanna River. The mission of the Partnership is to continue to grow the Greenway, inspiring people to engage with the outdoors and transforming communities into places where people want to live, work, and explore.
