Writing the Hard Stuff with Sheryl St. Germain (virtual writing workshop)

October 22, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

A virtual creative writing workshop for all levels that will give you eight
tools to help you to write memoirs or poems that deal with loss, grief,
tragedy, substance abuse, shame, regret—all the things we sometimes find it
hard to write genuinely and in a way that will draw readers in. For this
two-hour workshop you’ll generate several small (under 100 words)
pieces—either prose or poetry—using one or more of the writing strategies
we’ll discuss. You may choose to share parts of your writing with the
class, but it’s not a requirement. At the end of the class you’ll also take
with you a list of the strategies as well as published examples so that you
can continue your writing journey on your own.
Sheryl St. Germain is a poet and essayist whose work has received numerous
awards. Her most recent book, 50 Miles, a memoir in linked essays, was
published by Etruscan Press in 2020. Former Director of the M.F.A. program
in Creative Writing at Chatham University, she is co-founder of the Words
Without Walls program.
