The 80-square-mile Roaring Creek watershed lies in Columbia, Montour, and Northumberland Counties; it includes the popular trails around the reservoirs in Weiser State Forest as well as the farm country surrounding Fisherdale, Mill Grove, Numidia, Slabtown — and Knoebels. Just as we had done in the “SITEexchange” show, we want to see your artwork, in any medium, that celebrates this lovely part of our region.

This show marks the first collaboration between The Exchange and the Roaring Creek Valley Conservation Association, which seeks to conserve the natural resources of the basin and its rich culture through watershed stewardship, education, and monitoring. Found: The Sculpture of Randall Cleaver

March 12 – 29, 2024
Gallery Hours:
Tues/Wed/Thurs 2 – 8 pm
Fri 11 am – 4 pm
Sun 1 – 5 pm

Randall Cleaver creates sculptures and automata from found objects. Using an intuitive working style, he is inspired and guided by the found objects. He begins with a germ of an idea, uncovers relationships between parts, and allows the form of the object to respond to these discoveries. He enjoys seeing the amusement and surprise of viewers as they discover the various components, interact with the animation, see the glow of the lights, or hear the clocks activate on the hour.
Cleaver earned a BFA in sculpture from Penn State University. As a sculpture student it was a natural thing to scour salvage yards and rubbish piles for art supplies, and this attitude of reuse and adapting existing parts still plays a major role in his pieces today. He expanded his skills at the School of Horology, where he learned to construct mechanisms for his kinetic sculptures.
