Studio Paintings by Robert L. Hughes

May 2 - May 31

“My goal is to capture the beauty of the landscape, both natural and
man-made,” said Robert L. Hughes. A selection of Hughes’ large studio
paintings are on display in Gallery 255 at the Public Library for Union
County throughout the month of May.
Hughes exhibit features portraits and landscapes inspired by his frequent
travels to Great Britain.
“Studio paintings present a new list of challenges differing from those of
painting ‘en plein air’ or painting on site in the open air,” said Hughes.
“ A studio painting provides the luxury of having a long period of time to
complete a painting as opposed to rushing to finish a ‘plein air’ piece in
an hour or two. But keeping a studio painting looking fresh and not
overworked can be a problem. Both ways of painting are always a learning
experience which I love.”
Hughes said a lifelong love of art led him to create paintings for his own
Hughes is a member of the Lewisburg Arts Council, the Lewisburg Artist

“I am also a proud member of the popular Harrisburg area painting group
‘The Seven Lively Artists,’” he said.
