Film screening: “I Was Always Supposed to Be Here”
August 13 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm EDT
The Exchange hosts this film as part of its mission to bring all arts to all communities throughout our region. All ages welcomed, donations accepted at the door.
“I Was Always Supposed to Be Here” is an experimental documentary that showcases the current pursuits, practices, and professions of 29 Black women who live in and around Austin, Texas.
This movie was shot on 16mm film using a spring-loaded 1950s Bell & Howell camera. Other than light and color adjustments, each 3-minute roll of film is presented exactly as it was shot, with all cuts performed in camera.
At its heart, this movie is about people and the ties that bind us as humans. While the film’s stories are told exclusively by Black women, all audiences will be able to see themselves represented in the collected words and images.
Jonathan Nunan grew up in Forest City, PA, and graduated from Penn State in 2000 with a degree in Film/Video. “I Was Always Supposed to Be Here is his first” (and likely only) feature-length movie.
