The Susquehanna Valley Chorale (SVC) will end its current performance season with its ever-popular Pops Concert featuring the music of Cole Porter on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Susquehanna University’s Weber Auditorium in Selinsgrove. The Chorale performs under the direction of Bill Payn; Fred Hooper will return as Emcee.

The SVC will receive an award from WVIA Public Media at the Friday evening performance, commemorating 50 years of collaboration between the two organizations.

This year’s Pops Concert features the music of Cole Porter. Chorale singers will be joined by SVC scholarship singers, the SVC stage band, and many of the SVC’s talented members as featured soloists including: Shannon Borchert, Bill Calhoun, Amy Caron, Marina Gresh, Sara Kelley, Brooke Persing, Coleen Renshaw and LaVina Truslow.

The SVC Stage Band includes Dale Orris, Michael Trego, Kevin Henry, Richard Adams, Chris Wheeler, Jack Lawton and Coleen Renshaw on piano.

The following songs will be featured in the program: I’ve Got You Under My Skin, It’s De-Lovely, Night and Day, I Get a Kick Out of You, My Heart Belongs to Daddy, Anything Goes, Too Darn Hot, Every Time We Say Goodbye, Just One of Those Things, You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To, It’s Alright With Me, and many others.

Bill Payn said of the performance, “SVC is closing out their season with some truly iconic and cherished music from a by-gone era. Cole Porter was a prolific composer that made his mark writing scores for Broadway and Hollywood. Many of his tunes became standards in the American songbook and are still popular today.”

Subscriptions will be available to purchase for next season, which includes the Messiah on October 21 and 22, 2023, A Candlelight Christmas with the Susquehanna Valley Youth Chorale on December 9 and 10, 2023, Amendment: Righting our Wrongs on March 16 and 17, 2024, and Pops: The Music of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim on May 10 and 11, 2024.

Early bird subscriptions of $70 are available until June 30, 2023. Subscriptions include four tickets to any SVC performance, a “Share the Music” coupon to bring a friend to a concert for just $5, and a complimentary SVC insulated tote bag while supplies last. After June 30, subscriptions are $85.
