Now in its 27th year, Project Discovery is a comprehensive theatre education program with a simple yet powerful mission: make sure every student from every high school in the five counties surrounding Bloomsburg attend professional performances by the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble at least once a year – FREE

Project Discovery schools are in the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit 16. The five counties of IU16 are: Columbia, Union, Northumberland, Snyder, and Montour.

The Project Discovery offering for BTE’s 42nd season is The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) directed by Aaron White and starring Ensemble Members Richie Cannaday and Eric Wunsch and new Ensemble Candidate, Amy Rene Byrne.

Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield created this irreverent, fast-paced romp through all of Shakespeare’s plays.  Their play was the London’s longest running stage comedy and a hit at theatres all over the world. BTE is excited to share it with our high school audiences.  Bring your students to BTE’s Alvina Krause Theatre in downtown Bloomsburg as our three BTE actors weave their wicked way through all of Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies (and yes, even the Sonnets) in one wild  97 minute theatrical ride.

As this season’s Project Discovery production, Complete Works will give students an overview of history’s most prolific playwright.  Titus Andronicus is re-imagined as a macabre cooking show, and Othello as a Hamilton-esque rap number, all while telling the stories of the source material in a fun, inventive way.  Whether students are well-versed in the Bard’s work, or this is their very first exposure, Complete Works will be sure to satisfy.

Matinee Dates are: Tuesday, Sept. 17, Wednesday, Sept. 18, Thursday, Sept. 19, Tuesday, Sept. 24, Wednesday, Sept. 25, Thursday, 26, Tuesday Oct. 1 and Thursday Oct. 3 all at 10:00 a.m.

All student matinees have a “TalkBack” with the cast following the performance.  A Study Guide is available as a download from BTE’s website. Scripts are available upon request.

Project Discovery’s  goals are simple: Support educators in meeting arts education mandates, by graduation, each student will have been to the theatre at least four times, and help students develop the “well rounded mind” essential for success.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) marks the beginning of BTE’s 42nd Season. Shows will available to the public, as well, September 12th – October 6th.
